DPS Texas School Safety Course
Per Texas Govt. Code 411.190
The DPS Texas School Safety Certification Course is designed to train teachers and school personnel on how to respond to an Active Shooter. This two-day (15-hour minimum) training consists of classroom and range instruction, and includes written examinations, practical exercises, and proficiency demonstrations with several live-fire exercises administered over the two-day period.
Outlined objectives to be taught include:
- Protection of Students
- Situational Awareness
- Mental Toughness
- Avoiding the Shooter
- Tactics for Denying an Intruder Entry into a Classroom or Facility
- Methods for Increasing Accuracy with a Handgun while under Duress
- Identification and Interaction with First Responders
Fee- $500 per student
Eligibility to take the class:
- Current employees of a school district or open-enrollment charter school
- Must already possess a current and valid Texas License to Carry.
- Class size is limited to 6 school employees per Instructor per Texas State requirements.
Required Pre-Qualification:
Pre-Qualification Live-Fire Exam
- 50 Rounds - Required Score 90%
Minimum Target Score of 225
Pre-Qualification Written Test
- LTC Rules and Regulations
Minimum Score 90%
*To be performed on the first day of class.**
Required equipment includes:
- Semi-Automatic Pistol that is .380mm or above caliber.
- At least 1 additional magazine.
- 300 rounds of ammunition (no reloads).
Basic and Advanced Guardian Training
In addition to the mandated School Safety Officer training, Guardian Angel Tactics takes you beyond the required curriculum and guides your designated staff through counter-active shooter measures. We offer basic, intermediate, and advanced levels of “Individual and Team Response to an Active Shooter Event”. These trainings include real-world tactics, building and room clearing, individual and team movement, and force skills development.
We also offer courses that include rifle tactics.
